Currently, TV signals are offered via analog, digital and terrestrial formats. The digital format offers many advantages over traditional cable television like better picture quality, better sound and is interactive.

The Digitalization Bill is going to mandate all TV signals digital and the subscribers will need a Set Top Box.  The use of analog signals will be prohibited and Cable operators can no longer use the analog signals.

Digitalization means instead of using analog signals, Television signals are now digital. A set top box is needed to process the digital signals. The system that distributes digital television signals is called a Conditional Access System or CAS.

Working Of Digital TV or DTH

DTH stands for Direct-to-Home Television. Through DTH service, you can receive TV programs through your own personal concave dish fixed outside your home. The signals are directly beamed in your home from the satellite through the concave dish.

DTH is very reliable, and has been widely used for quite a few years across the world. Since the Digital TV signals are transmitted from a satellite to your dish and Set Top Box. The Set Top Box processes the signals received by the dish and send the processed signals to the Television. Sometimes rain may affect reception. However, such an interruption of services is temporary and rare.  

DTH has digital transmission and stereophonic sound effects, thus offering   better quality picture and sound. It can also access remote areas which are not covered by Cable TV. It also offers interactive services like games, puzzles etc.
